The Lesson of the Lamp

"Now no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lamp stand, so that those who come in may see the light.

"For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

"So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him."

John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Matthew 5:14
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

Lamps have been known to light our paths for centuries.  Light a small flame in a dark room and soon you'll begin to see all that was not seen before.

We are lights in our own right.  Our birthright has been handed down to us in the form of spiritual light that allows us to see when many others cannot.  You have to reach for the light, reach for a lamp, to light a small room.  You have to want to be the light and hold the light within yourself to see a clear picture of what is meant to be seen.  With so many lights in the world we might think it hard to see others, but the light of your soul is connected to every single other light the world has to offer. When lights are turned on in a room, they don't maintain their separateness.  They join with the other spectrums of the other lights in the room and illuminate it further.  The same holds true for our world.  Your light within can and will join with the other lights in the world.  Transcending the darkness and joining in union of spirit to light the entire world.  This is the word and promise of our father.

I'm not a very religious person.  I have not studied the bible so much, but I listen to God.  I listen and like to try and understand the words that Jesus said.  When I look at the passages above and the things that are made reference to, I couldn't help but think of the story of Aladdin.  A diamond in the ruff, who was pure enough in heart to uncover another sort of lamp.  One with a powerful genie in it who gave him the granting of three wishes.  I suppose I like this story because it is with the path of light that we take that leads us to a greater light.  One that, like the genie story, will give us power beyond our dreams.  We only need to be like Aladdin.  Pure enough in heart and brave enough to seek it.

I'm posting a clip from the movie "Aladdin" below.  It stars one of my favorite people, now on the other side, Robin Williams.
